January 10, 2019 – Joint NADSFL- NCSSFL Webinar on Federal Funding
Introduced by NADSFL President Debbie Callihan-Dingle and NCSSFL President Ofelia Wade, moderators Bill Rivers and Trey Calvin of JNCL-NCLIS faciliated a discussion with panel members Jamie Patterson and Yalanda Bell of Fulton County, GA, Jessica Haxhi of New Haven, CT, and Morgan Cox of Denver, CO, President of the National Council of State Title II Directors.
Federal funding for your program may be right under your nose! During this webinar, expert panelists in the field discuss their experience employing innovative uses of US Dept of Ed funding to support language programs. Title III, Title II, Title IV – Part A, and CTE dollars are available to support programming in America’s languages. The goal of this webinar is to share their stories, in particular, on how to engage organizational leadership to support language programming.

October 24, 2018 – Incorporating Social Justice in Your World Language Programs
Dr. Stacey Johnson, producer and host of We Teach Languages, leads a discussion of ways to incorporate social justice into world language programs. Stacey is Assistant Director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching and teaches courses in foreign language teaching methods, second language acquisition, and education. Her research includes work on classroom practices, hybrid/blended instruction, and adult language learning including transformative learning and critical pedagogy. Stacey is the founding chair of the ACTFL Critical and Social Justice Approaches special interest group (SIG). You can check out her 2015 book Adult Learning in the Language Classroom (Multilingual Matters) here and a recent co-authored article on social justice in language education here.

April 25, 2018 – Promote Intercultural Communicative Competence
Learn how you can guide your teachers to embed intercultural competence in the target language in all levels of study from novice to advanced. Sarah Lindstrom, department chair and teacher of Spanish grades 4-12, spent a sabbatical year researching ICC as Teacher-in-Residence for ACTFL, culminating in her doctoral dissertation “Language Teaching that Aims to Promote Intercultural Competence”. A recognized expert in the field, Sarah has also co-authored a chapter in the 2017 book, Intercultural Competence in the Foreign Language Classroom.
