Our Mission:
The mission of the National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages is to promote excellence in foreign language education for all learners through professional development of foreign language supervisors. The organization supports supervisors by facilitating member networking and communication, by promoting knowledge of current initiatives, trends and research, and by encouraging advocacy for foreign language learning at all levels.
NADSFL Fast Facts
- NADSFL began in 1984 with one facilitator (Mimi Met) and five additional founding members, including Marty Abbott, Christy Brown, Paul Garcia, John Harrison, and Maria Wilmeth.
- In 1987 dues were $10 a year, and the Regional Representatives came on board.
- In 1988, NADSFL elected its first president.
- In 1999, the Supervisor of the Year Award was instituted and The Characteristics of Effective Foreign Language Instruction were developed.
- In 2006, the first Summer Academy was held with 14 attendees.
- In 2008, a co-sponsorship status was formed with ACTFL.
- In 2015, NADSFL launched The Principles of Effective World Language Programs.
